WOOD 1" DIAMETER INSERT DOWEL - This listing is for a 1" diameter x 4" long raw wood insert dowel that can be turned down to a 5/8" diameter insert sleeve. Numerous customers requested these insert dowels so they'd have a starting point for making their own 5/8" diameter insert sleeve that they would use for cutting a precision toneboard.
THESE 1" DIAMETER INSERT DOWELS ARE PERFECT FOR MAKING INSERT SLEEVES
Many of the exotic burl wood species are not ideal for toneboards because the burl wood often has voids or imperfections which can spoil the toneboard. So the work-a-round is to use an insert sleeve and than glue on the custom shaped bell end. This allows you to have a duck call with a matching barrel and insert but with a more reliable toneboard cut from one of our 1" OD INSERT DOWELS.
These 1" OD dowels are a great option because they're priced right, and it's not a difficult process to turn one down to a 5/8" diameter. Once you get these dowel to the correct diameter you can glue on your bell end, and than you'll be ready to drill the center bore and finally cut your toneboard.
